Week 5 Blog Post November 19 2021 This Week in Hopara Hōpara Times The children have finalised their newspaper reports using the online Canva tool. These reports have used the information from their whānau interview. They are a fascinating read and we will be collating them all into one newspaper. Team Tūhura and Hōpara Scratch Alex and Oskar planned Scratch workshops and delivered these to both teams on Wednesday. They surveyed the team to find out that Broadcast and Receive was the next skill that everyone wanted to focus on. The workshops were a great success and most children completed their Scratch game. Tennis On Thursday Hopara took part in our annual tennis tournament. There was some wonderful Rallies from multiple students, Ben stockton and Jemmah Gaston taking the honors. Honorable mentions goes to Jackson Clark, Bradly Cowles, Louisa Miller and Mila Chamberlain.  2022 MATAWARA BEGINNING OF YEAR CAMP (YEAR 6'S ONLY)  Thank you so much to all of you who have completed th

Kia ora e te whānau  We have had a wonderful week in Hōpara!  Thursday Science   This Thursday we started a series of investigations made by the New Zealand Transport agency. The purpose of these investigations is to gain a better understanding of what happens when a car is in a crash. This week we looked at side on, rear end and head to head impacts using marbles to simulate cars in crashes.  CHILL CLUBS:   All Hōpara students now have a new set of CHILL tasks that they have personally designed or were given. As a team, we continue to refine this program to ensure it is student-led and driven but also ensure there is accountability. Kia ora e te whānau  Welcome back to Term 4!  Athletics Day was a huge success for all Hōpara students! It was pleasing to see everyone pushing themselves and striving for personal excellence.   Our new writing project called "Our Story, Our Taonga" started this week. We collaboratively constructed 10 interview questions to gather information about a story that has been foundational to us or our whānau. Over the next week, Hōpara students will conduct the interview and begin to construct their articles.  We have started a new round of chill clubs. Some students required more structure based on their presentation results last term, hence their projects being designed for them. Please have a chat with your children about what their projects are and how you can best support them. Reminder - Below are the topics we will discuss in sexuality this term:  Sun Hats  - Please make sure your child has a NAMED sun hat ready for school tomorrow. The weather is heating up and we need to s
