Kia ora e te whānau Firstly, thank you for your on-going support with home learning and google meet opportunities. It has been wonderful interacting and guiding students with their learning throughout the week - fingers crossed we will be back in our classroom soon!! Remember if there is anything your child is struggling with, book a google meet time with us and we will see how we can support them. Next week's programme is still fairly uncertain, but we will keep you in the loop!  Feedback on slides/tasks: Please take the time to read the feedback Ashley, Linda and Mr B are providing, this does take a considerable amount of time and we would appreciate people responding to it.  We hope some of these haven't applied in your house this week..... Here is a link to the schedule for learning at home TV provided by the Ministry if you would like to share it with your teams: https://learningfromhome.govt. nz/HLTV#TV-schedule Ngā mihi  Ashley, Linda, Mr B and Helen

Week 4 Blogpost

Kia ora e te whānau Well, our week was cut short, wasn't it! Nick and I hope you are all doing ok and enjoying a few days of slowing down a little.   We began our week by starting our second speech. This week's task was to choose between the two topics; technology is our future or sport, science, and health is our future. All Hōpara students then had to research body paragraph ideas and begin to write their introduction. Fractions are still an area of maths we are focusing on, which will continue in the coming weeks (whether we are in school or not!).   We also started our "Maths shopping trip" activity, the purpose of this task was for students to see how fractions can be used in the "real world". Students learned how to subtract 1/10 (10%), 1/4 (25%) from their original products.  Please check the APP for Hōpara updates over the coming days. We will continue to use the doc as a running information sheet, so you or your children can go back and check on oth

Kia ora e te whānau  Welcome to week 3! This week's focus has been completing our 1st speech, we feel so incredibly proud of the effort Hōpara students have put in to this. Students had to choose to do their speech on whether they thought "dogs" or "horses" were the most useful for humans in history. Please take the time over the coming week to look at their Learning Journal and make a comment.  CHILL (children leading learning): By now all students should have completed 3 tasks and uploaded them to their presentation journal. Please check in with your child about how they are tracking with this. Below are some pictures of CHILL in action!  Are we getting enough sleep? Here is some useful information to share with your child around the importance of sufficient sleep:  Why sleep is important for children aged 5-11 years? When your child sleeps well, your child will be more settled, happy and ready for school the next day. Good-quality sleep helps your child conc

Kia ora e te whānau The quote above really resonates with Hōpara as a team this week! We are currently in the depths of learning to write speeches, "asking for help" has been an essential focus for us all! We all know that the more we talk and conference, the better the outcomes will be! Hōpara students should be incredibly proud of the māhi they have produced in the last two weeks, and we hope they have shared their successes at home.  Fractions Golf tournament: On Wednesday, we had a class golf tournament. Students played against each other in 9 holes, meeting the correct equivalent fraction. We got down to the final 4 (Tommy, Matt P, Matthew B, and Billie) and had a playoff for 1,2,3, and 4th. T he gold medal went to Tommy, Silver Matt P, Bronze Matt B, and 4th place went to Billie!  CHILL CLUBS:   All Hōpara students now have a new set of CHILL tasks that they have personally designed or were given. As a team, we continue to refine this programme to ensure it is student
